Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra

The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra presents a four-concert 2009-10 season at Shryock Auditorium.  Opening Night showcases the “Stars of Altgeld,” featuring winners of the annual School of Music Solo Competition. In November, the orchestra commemorates Veterans Day with a unique program of American music, with special guest, Illinois Attorney General, Lisa Madigan. The Spring performances begin in March with “The Poor People of Paris.” This St. Louis based ensemble specializes in popular French music, including songs made famous by Edith Piaf. The season concludes in April with an appearance by the world famous “Eroica Trio.” The most sought-after piano trio in the world, the grammy-nominated Eroica Trio thrills audiences with flawless technical virtuosity, irresistible enthusiasm and sensual elegance. They perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto on a program that also includes Hector Berlioz’ “Harold in Italy.” Read more »

Welcome To The Orchestra!

Since 1903, the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra (SISO), composed of faculty and students of Southern Illinois University, talented community members and area professionals, has presented live orchestral music in Southern Illinois. In January 2001, the Illinois Council of Orchestras named SISO the Community Volunteer Orchestra of the Year in Illinois, and in January 2005, the Council named Music Director, Edward Benyas, Conductor of the Year in the Small Orchestra category. In 2005, the SISO established the Southern Illinois Music Festival (www.SIFest.com), an annual summer festival that includes over 40 professional performances/presentations of classical music, ballet, art and jazz in two-dozen venues throughout Southern Illinois during the three weeks leading to the 4th of July.
